Phone On Right

Have you ever noticed how, when some people answer their mobile phones with their left hand (because their right hand is occupied), they have to put their left arm across their face to hold the phone at their right ear?

I can never quite understand why people do this involuntarily because don't you think it is a very awkward action? I do it at times and after I put the phone down, I always wonder why I didn't put it at my left ear where it would be more comfortable and less awkward a pose. And it's not as if I can hear better on my right ear!

I can't understand why it happens. Do you?

Lateralization of brain function
I noticed this sometime I thought it was weird too.. and so i tried putting the phone to my other ear and tried to carry out a normal business conversation. then i sounded like an idiot till i switched back to my left ear. quite simply, i wasn't comfortable with it. and discomfort creates distraction.

Hmmm... I don't have this problem, but I'm ambidextrous.

However, I do find it amusing when people use handsfree kits and still hold up the phone to talk.

Gesticulating enhances the experience and helps bring across the point, I guess. :)

Also, do you realise many people have hand gestures as if they are talking face to face to the person over the phone :-)

My colleague in the office does that!

Apparently holding it to your left ear transmits less radiation to your brain. Don't know if it's true though.

I've never done the crossover thing!
