Had ice cream at ice3, an ice cream and dessert café at Serangoon Gardens, two Saturdays ago. My two dining companions and I reached at 11.30pm and there were still quite a few other customers there, though we managed to get seats pretty easily. The interior had a red, black and white colour theme with a retro feel and the place had a relaxed ambience.
However, the cakes and Danish pastries on display didn’t look appetizing so we decided to settle for the ice cream which looked more appealing. The selling point of this ice cream joint is that all the ice cream and sorbets are homemade. In a mood for something richer, I decided to go for ice cream. I chose the Chocolate Indulgence and Macadamia Nut, and requested for a chocolate sauce topping which cost me an extra 60 cents—so not worth it for 60 cents ‘cos I got only a drizzle of it! I mean, I might as well didn’t have it at all. Felt really cheated! I should have sent it back to the kitchen!
At first, I wasn’t too sure of the Chocolate Indulgence ‘cos it looked too pale (I love only rich chocolate ice cream), but I decided to give it a try nonetheless. I’ve made it my mission in life to always try the chocolate ice cream at ice cream joints. To me, that is the mark of a place. ;p
In the end, both ice creams turned out disappointing. The Chocolate Indulgence certainly doesn’t deserve its name. It wasn’t chocolate-y enough. Not enough cocoa and not enough kick. I wasn’t overcome by a chocolate high or a cocoa rush. The Macadamia Nut was rather devoid of nuts and there wasn’t a rich taste of macadamia. The ice creams weren’t silken smooth either.
So no, the taste of the ice creams didn't leave me frozen in my tracks and begging for more. Instead, it was a bit of a meltdown. Overall, a not too satisfying dining experience (don’t believe all the magazine and newspaper articles displayed outside!), but a convenient ice cream joint to go to if you live around the area and don’t want to head all the way to town to chill and meet friends for ice cream.
