It's 6am, I'm having the radio on and the national anthem has just blasted through the airwaves.
I don't understand this daily morning ritual of the TV and radio stations. It's a short 20sec clip, but still, do Singaporeans need to be reminded every day of their citizenry?
I don't.
Posted by DSD at June 6, 2004 6:00 AM | TrackBacki ask myself the same question every morning of those years i spent struggling to get out of bed and make it in time for the assembly.
and i am amused to find that the bbc has it at 1am here too... a short blast of "God save the Queen".
truly amused.
Posted by: tiggie at June 6, 2004 9:24 AMIt's been a long time since I heard it on a radio at that time of the day...I guess i haven't been up so early in singapore for a while!
I do wonder too about this forcing patriotism or citizeny on people. Sometimes the more you force something on people, the more they resist. Particularly if they're strong-minded individuals who'd rather choose to do something than be told to do something. =)
