I applied to do a Certificate in English/Chinese Translation and Interpretation at Temasek Polytechnic. The course sounds extremely demanding and I'm really just trying my luck. I probably wouldn't pass the qualifying test and the two interviews. Ok, I would pass the one conducted in English but probably not the one in Chinese. My tongue will probably get lost halfway through the interview.
I've always enjoyed the study of languages and I would like to be able to do more with my knowledge of Chinese. I appreciate the beauty of the Chinese language and I want to learn more about it, and be more proficient in it. I also think translation's interesting. It's a real challenge to be able to accurately translate one language to another without losing the text's original meaning and the nuances of the source language.
I'm rather insane to be applying for the course considering my proficiency (or rather lack of it) in Chinese but I would like to go for the qualifying test to see where I stand. After all, I've already met the minimum requirements with my results in the 'O' and 'A' level exams, so I thought might as well give it a try. No harm doing so.
Anyway, will see how it goes.
