Chinese New Year decorations along Pagoda Street

One of many stalls selling Chinese New Year decorations

Pumpkins for good luck

Traditional Nian-Gao , a sweet steamed glutinous rice pudding. It symbolizes career, wealth and social position. (my mum bought one! It's tastes great when pan-fried.)

Just a few of the many boxes of new year cookies on sale. My favourite are the pineapple tarts. I practically stuff my face with them every year!

Chinese sausages (larp cheong as said in Cantonese) are usually wind dried pork or duck sausages. They are commonly served in rice dishes.

Pomelos and Gourds for sale. Pomelos symbolize abundance and prosperity while gourds are Chinese symbols of health and longevity.
