While making sweet potato soup (one of my favourite desserts) yesterday for afternoon tea, I discovered a very neat way of getting rid of the starch that sticks on one's hands after handling the sweet potato. I had tried using soap but it didn't get rid of the stickiness. My mum then told me to take some uncooked rice and rub it in my palm and it worked! I was so fascinated by this discovery that I had to write about it. I love all these old wives' remedies. :)

The leaves at the side of the bowl are pandang leaves which are put to boil together with the sweet potato and some ginger slices to give the soup added fragrance.

The finished product.
