I was intending to post this list one or two days before I leave. But I decided I would so do earlier so that my friends in Sydney can add to it by suggesting some nice places for me to go to before I leave in 11 days! Here’s a list of my favourite places in Sydney so far, in no particular order of preference. I’m sure there are heaps more which I have yet to discover, but I’ll have to leave it for the next time I come to Sydney.
1) North Head at Manly – awesome views of the ocean, the harbour and the city.
2) Bondi Beach – great cafes along the beach. Also great for lots of eye candy with the surfer dudes and beach babes.
3) Manly Beach – nice beach and also has plenty of eye candy. Just a tad too touristy at times.
4) The walk from Bondi to Coogee beach – one of the most scenic walks in the world!
5) Long Reef – another fantastic lookout point to the Pacific Ocean
6) Adrian’s house – I’m staking out at his waterfront house the next time I’m in Sydney, ‘cos I want to go surfskiing around the bay or surfski across the bay to the Royal National Park. ;p
7) Joe’s house – ‘cos it has a lovely view of the ocean and it’s only a short drive away from the beach
8) Darkes Forest – good-natured horses to go riding on through the valley in the nature reserve.
9) The North Shore – for all the foliage that makes it so pretty
10) The house I’m been living in all this while in Sydney. My aunt cooks great food, and I have a piano to play, a hammock in the garden to lie in, and a big house to live in. I can’t have all these in Singapore unless I marry an obscenely rich man or I strike the 1st prize in lottery. Both prospects of which are very slim. So I’ve relished the time spent in this house in the suburb of Pymble which is also happens to be in the North Shore.
11) Circular Quay – probably the most touristy spots in Sydney but one of the best spots nonetheless. It’s one of the best spots to see the Harbour Bridge and the Opera House and also to watch ferries go by.
12) Sydney Opera House – ‘cos it’s a magnificent piece of architecture
13) The Botanic Gardens – a lovely spot of greenery right in the heart of the CBD. It’s just next to the Opera House and has a lovely view of the harbour.
14) Building 10 of UTS - where the Faculty of Education and the Faculty of IT are housed. I had all my classes there. The building is the nicest of all the buildings in UTS and it won some architectural award for its refurbishment. It’s modern with lots of glass panels and a see-through roof which lets the skylight in.
15) Paddington market – love all the handsewn clothes and bags, the handicrafts, jewellery and other unique handmade stuff.
16) Balmain market – ditto the comments for Paddington market
17) Oxford Street, Darlinghurst – good for window shopping and ogling at all the nice clothes (‘cos it’s too expensive for me to buy) in all the boutiques. Plus it's also famous for the annual Mardi Gras Parade.
18) Middle Head – nice harbour views and also ‘cos I’ve done bush regeneration work there 3 times.
19) Govindas’ boutique cinema - 'cos it's just so darn comfortable to lie on those mattresses and cushions
20) The Manly ferry – ok, not a “place” per se. But still, it’s a nice ride on the ferry to Manly from Circular Quay and back.
