I don't know if others are like that, but whenever I take the train to the city, I prefer to sit on the left side of it. This is because when the train crosses the Sydney Harbour Bridge, it is the left side where I can see the Sydney Opera House and across the harbour. Well ok, the right side also looks out to the harbour, but it's not as nice 'cos there's no Opera House to see and that side of the harbour has a lot of industrial cranes and warehouses lying around. Not so pleasant to look at.
And so on the way back home from the city, I would usually choose to sit on the right side of the train. A little neurotic I know.
Of late, it's been especially pleasant taking the train and looking out of the window. This is because all the jacaranda trees have started blooming in all their purple glory. Sydney's North Shore is filled with trees of all sorts. The jacarandas are one of them and they're so pretty when in bloom. An aerial view of Sydney will have you seeing many spots of purple which are absolutely gorgeous.
Train rides have never been more pleasant. :)
