I walked from Bondi Beach to Coogee Beach today. It's one of the best walks I've ever done and dare I say, one of the best in the world. The glorious blue skies and warm sunshine brought out all the surfer dudes and bikini babes. Lacking the requisite well-toned body, I of course wasn't one of the latter. Still, the surfer dudes were eye-candy galore for me during my 2 1/2 hour walk from Bondi to Coogee. :p
A friend had organised a bbq at Coogee Beach Park with some of her other friends and asked me along. However, I decided to go to Bondi first to have a look at the Sunday market there. This market was alright. I didn't like anything particularly.
At the moment, there's also an exhibition called "Sculptures by the Sea" where over 100 sculptures by different Australian artists (some children included) are displayed along the cliffs that hug the coastline. The walking path along the cliffs had sculptures placed at regular intervals, and I must say it's such a brilliant idea to have such a magnificent exhibition venue. It just gets everyone up and walking. A combination of arts, sports and nature. Perfect.
The exhibits didn't extend all the way to Coogee but I decided to walk all the way there as the views before me were so breathtaking. I was so in awe of the beauty before me as I walked along the sandstone cliffs and looked out towards the blue ocean and the line of cliffs that snaked along the coastline. I feel sad to have to leave all these behind.
Australians love the sun and the sea. I do too - I wished such beaches and landscapes existed in Singapore. It was lovely to see many children at the beach and developing a love for the outdoors right from a young age. I was most disappointed with my cousins when I came home only to find that they were indoors either watching TV / playing computer games for the whole day. Seems that the beach culture doesn't seem to be an Asian thing. I didn't see many Asians on the beach. I reckon it's a real pity to not enjoy all these gifts of nature.
Anyway, I want to do the walk again before I leave. Today I was walking continuously as I was in a hurry to reach Coogee. The next time, I want to bring a book and my diary with me, and sit atop a cliff for awhile. Shall just take my time, sit & relax and enjoy the view before me. Do a bit of reading, a bit of writing and a bit of thinking. And of course, I would want to go into the waters as well. Definitely must hit the beach before I go! Otherwise, I can't say I've been to Australia!

Joan, I love that walk!
I did the walk during the last time I was in Sydney. I actually saw some Asians on Tamarama beach - they were playing beach volleyball.
